If, like us, you&#8217;ve never gotten around to buying a rolling mat, this bypasses spending that money.  Or, if you&#8217;re unskilled at the rolling itself (or lazy!), this is your chance to avoid that step and still acheive sushi noms. :-)<\/p>\n<p>This is a HIGHLY customizable dish, limited only by imagination. You could structure it as a fairly simple dish I suspect, or fix a lot of ingredients and eat leftovers for some time.  We did more of a cooking party: four of us each cooked or prepared a few ingredients, according to our energy level and interest. It&#8217;s also a dish that each diner can customize to their particular preferences.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll share what ingredients we used and how we prepared them, to get you started. The rest is up to you!<\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glutenfreeveggie.info\/foodpics\/onebite.jpg\"><\/center><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b><u>SUSHI BOWLS<\/u><\/p>\n<p>INGREDIENTS:<\/b><br \/>\n<u>Sushi rice<\/u>, prepared <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodnetwork.com\/recipes\/alton-brown\/sushi-rice-recipe\/index.html\">Alton style<\/a>:<br \/>\n2 cups sushi or short grain rice<br \/>\n2 tablespoons rice vinegar<br \/>\n2 tablespoons sugar<br \/>\n1 tablespoon kosher salt<\/p>\n<p><u>Other ingredients:<\/u><br \/>\nNori seaweed sheets, placed on baking sheet and toasted in oven for 5 minutes at 300 degrees (this helps them crumble more easily)<br \/>\nTofu, either frozen then thawed or pressed (we also fried ours in grapeseed oil until brown)<br \/>\nCucumber &#8211; peeled, seeded and diced<br \/>\nAvocado, diced<br \/>\nsesame seeds (toasted, if you like)<br \/>\nasparagus, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wikihow.com\/Blanch-Asparagus\">blanched<\/a> and cut into 1-inch pieces<br \/>\ncream cheese (optional)<\/p>\n<p><u>Sauces and condiments (all optional)<\/u>:<br \/>\nwasabi<br \/>\npickled ginger<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/allrecipes.com\/recipe\/eel-sauce\/\">eel sauce<\/a> (soy sauce, vegan sugar and mirin)<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/makemysushi.com\/index.php\/sushi-preparations\/spicy-mayonnaise.html\">spicy mayo<\/a> (mayo, sriracha and lemon juice)<\/p>\n<p>Prepare all ingredients and combine to taste! <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a few glimpses at various bowls:<\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glutenfreeveggie.info\/foodpics\/bowla.jpg\"><\/center><\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glutenfreeveggie.info\/foodpics\/bowlb.jpg\"><\/center><\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glutenfreeveggie.info\/foodpics\/bowlc.jpg\"><\/center><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ages ago I saw the idea somewhere &#8212; combining all your favorite sushi roll ingredients in a bowl.
